2010 Ryder Cup Friday Morning Fourball Pairings

After what seems like an eternity, the 2010 Ryder Cup day one, Friday morning fourball pairings have been announced.

Earlier today, European Captain Colin Montgomerie and US Captain Corey Pavin announced tomorrow’s pairings which will kick off 7:45am local time which equates to 2:45am ET.

Stinking time zone differences.. looks like it’s going to be a late one for everyone’s favorite golf blogger! :)

Bring on the coffee!

Here’s the United States vs. European pairings..

7:45 a.m/2:45 a.m. ET: Phil Mickelson & Dustin Johnson vs. Lee Westwood & Martin Kaymer

8:00 a.m/3:00 a.m ET: Stewart Cink & Matt Kuchar vs. Graeme McDowell & Rory McIlroy

8:15 a.m/3:15 a.m. ET: Steve Stricker & Tiger Woods vs. Ian Poulter & Ross Fisher

8:30 a.m/3:30 a.m. ET: Bubba Watson & Jeff Overton vs. Luke Donald & Padraig Harrington

Over at intothegrain.com John discusses the 2010 Ryder Cup Day One pairings and does a very good job of summarizing each team.

I was a little disappointed at the pairings, primarily because we don’t get to witness an early Tiger Woods – Rory McIlroy grudge match. In recent weeks, McIlroy has been outspoken about the opportunity to play in the 2010 Ryder Cup against Tiger Woods because, he hasn’t exactly been playing like himself.

“I would love to face him,” said McIlroy, who scored his first PGA Tour victory at Quail Hollow Championship. “Unless his game rapidly improves in the next month or so, I think anyone in the European team would fancy his chances against him.”

In response Tiger Woods simply said “Me too.” When asked to elaborate on the cryptic statement, he simply said, “no.”

Soon after, McIlroy tried to downplay his previous comments about Woods, pointing out that he said them the week following the Bridgestone Invitational where Tiger played the worst he’s ever played as a PGA Tour professional.

“So he wasn’t playing too well at that time, he’s obviously getting his game together, and he’s working with Sean Foley and making a few swing changes. I said this week and last week, I don’t mind who. I just want to win points against the team.”

Rumor has it that Tiger approached McIroy regarding the 2010 Ryder Cup and said to him, “Be careful what you wish for.”

Honestly, I’d be surprised if we see any Tiger-Rory pairing, it’d be awesome, but since it’s a blind draw each day, the chances aren’t too good.

But, it’s the Ryder Cup and anything can happen!

Oh, does anyone else find it amusing that Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy are also sharing the cover of Tiger Woods 2011?

GET YOUR TEAM TOGETHER!

Mindi Boysen, TPI CGFI

So, you think you want to be a golfer? Or do you want to be the BEST golfer you possibly can be? Once you’ve made the decision, you need to get your team together-working together-to help you achieve your highest potential in the sport you love. To get you on the right track, surround yourself with a team of experts. So, stop taking unsolicited advice from friends and golfing comrades and take the plunge to find your top 3 people in your golf world.

1) Certified Golf Instructor: An instructor will give you the foundation, fundamentals, and exact mechanics of a sound swing. DO NOT TEACH YOURSELF! There are 5 main parts of a basic golf swing: Grip/Address/Backswing/Transition& Downswing/through swing. You can buy a book and read up on the fundamentals, but you need a hands-on approach with a certified instructor to guide you through the many swing faults you WILL have. Find an instructor and/or facility that use both 3D cameras as well as 2D video. These advanced lessons can help you notice proper sequencing and positioning of club and body that is not always noticed with the naked eye.

2) Certified Golf Fitness Coach: Once you know your basic fundamentals and understand what is involved with the swing, a certified golf fitness coach can screen your body to see if the swing faults you have are due to poor mechanics or lack of ability for the body to perform a good, solid, consistent swing. I’ve seen it time and time again…frustration! An instructor and golf student can work and work to achieve lower scores, but if the body cannot produce a consistent, repetitious swing-it isn’t going to happen! DON’T CHANGE YOUR SWING TO MATCH YOUR BODY! Change your body to match a correct swing! If you can’t get enough torso turn, if your hips are too tight, if you don’t have a strong base of support and balance…YOU WILL NOT GET BETTER!

3) Medical: The medical component of the team could consistent of a massage therapist or physical therapist. This is especially important if you have had injuries recently or in the past that inhibit performing a swing correctly. Massage is underrated in the golf world. A deep tissue massage can work wonders for the soft tissue around joints and within muscles where scar tissue may form. When starting a workout program or taking more lessons than usual, I suggest finding a massage therapist in your area and make it a point to have a massage once a week for a minimum of 4 weeks. Have you had an injury? Go get a diagnosis and finish ALL of your physical therapy appointments. Again, when you’ve made the decision that you DO want to be the best golfer you can be, do some research and find a team that works together and fits your needs. Check out http://www.mytpi.com/ for certified golf fitness instructors in your area. The Titleist Performance Institute has put together a three level education course designed to teach instructors how to identify and overcome any physical restrictions that are limiting a golfer’s potential. Mindi Boysen is a Titleist Certified Level II Golf Fitness Coach endorsed by Tatum Ranch Golf Club in Cave Creek, AZ. Her book, Synergistic Golf, outlines each day of the year with golf performance & life enhancing tips. Her 3 DVD series demonstrates flexibility, strength, and stability exercises used in the golf swing. Mindi is available for private or group golf fitness training as well as seminars and nutritional consultations. TaylorMade Rossa Daytona Ghost Putter

Tour-Proven Rossa Daytona Ghost Features White-Colored Head and High-Contrast Alignment Cues in a Heel-Toe Weighted Blade

TaylorMade Golf is proud to announce the release of the putter that so many golfers have been asking for, the Rossa Daytona Ghost, a tour-proven blade that offers the familiar calming white color and high-contrast alignment cues of the now-famous Rossa Corza Ghost mallet putter. Like the Corza Ghost, the Rossa Daytona  was developed with significant input from the world’s most sought-after putting instructor, TaylorMade Tour Staff professional Dave Stockton.

Tour pros who have put a prototype similar to the Rossa Daytona Ghost in play include Paula Creamer, who used it to win the U.S. Women’s Open, as well as Scott Verplank, Martin Laird, Jason Day, Peter Hanson, Darren Clarke, Andres Romero and Sean O’Hair.

The first model in the series, the Corza Ghost, has proven an instant success with consumers and Tour professionals worldwide, building massive momentum in the retail marketplace. In four months, the putter’s key achievements already include two PGA Tour victories by TMaG Tour Staff professional Justin Rose, first at the Memorial and again at the AT&T National. It has also fueled record-breaking growth for TaylorMade in the putter category; the brand’s 13.1% putter dollar marketshare in July 2010 is the highest total in company history.*

The Rossa Daytona also has the advantage of Rossa’s renowned and tour-proven AGSI®+ (Anti-skid Groove System Insert) Technology. The AGSI+ insert features 14 polymer-filled grooves in the face that “hold” the ball briefly at impact to negate backspin and promote forwardspin for a smoother roll and more accurate results. The AGSI+ insert also delivers superior consistency in forward roll on off-center hits, something not shown in tests of other popular putters.

The Rossa Daytona Ghost becomes available on Friday, October 1, at a street price of $129.

Golf Driver Warm Up Video Tip

Every golfer want’s to blast it long and down the middle on the first tee. Unfortunately this is a rare occurrence with most golfers. Why? Because a proper golf warm up is non-existent. Would any athlete in any other sport not warm up? Absolutely no way! They all “prepare their body for performance”. Why wouldn’t golfers? It never ceases to amaze me the lack of body preparation golfers choose to do (or should I say not do). Blows me away!

I don’t want to get too off-kilter, so without further ado, watch this video to once and for all be able to blast your drives long and straight on the first tee.

If you liked what you saw, and you want some guidance on how to better prepare your body for maximum golf performance, then take a look at our Golf Training Manual.
